Disable autoplay videos


Have you encountered those annoying autoplaying advertisements, (although I highly recommend you install an ad blocker), or perhaps you don’t want videos to automatically play when you load them on YouTube?

Here are some solutions to disable autoplay videos on popular browsers.

Disable autoplay videos Chrome

Follow these steps to disable autplay videos in Chrome:

  1. Click the Chrome menu Chrome-menu-icon on the browser toolbar and select Settings.
  2. Click + Show advanced settings
  3. Under Privacy, click Content settings
  4. Scroll to Plug-ins, and change the setting to Click to play

Alternatively

  1. In your address bar, copy & paste the following: chrome://chrome/settings/content
  2. Scroll to Plug-ins, and change the setting to Click to play

Follow these steps to disable autplay videos in Firefox:

  1. Type about:config into the address bar and hit Enter.
  2. If you receive a warning about modifying settings, click the “I’ll be careful, I promise button” to proceed.
  3. In the search bar that appears at the top of the page, enter plugins.click_to_play. The configuration setting should appear on a single line.
  4. Right-click the configuration setting and select Toggle. The value column should change from false to true. Restart Firefox.

  1. Click the Opera icon in the top left corner and select Settings.
  2. Click on Websites
  3. Scroll to Plug-ins, and change the setting to Click to play

(If you’re using Internet Explorer, consider switching to Chrome or Firefox)

Follow these steps to disable autoplay videos in Internet Explorer 11:

  1. Click the Gear icon and select Manage add-ons
  2. Click on Toolbars and Extensions
  3. From the drop-down menu under Show, select All add-ons.
  4. Right-click Shockwave Flash Object, and then select More information from the menu.
  5. From the window that appears, click the Remove all sites button. When you do this, the little asterisk in the large white field will disappear.
  6. For every website where Flash is used you will be prompted to “Allow” the flash content each time.
